Bone(s) to pick

The 4th floor is one of my favorites in the AMNH. Because dinosaurs. And fascinating skeletons of ancient animals that no longer walk among us.

I do find skeletons more difficult to draw though. It's harder to detect colors in the surfaces when compared to fur. I began drawing the lovely triceratops in the Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs using pastel pencils (my go-to), then decided I'd finish it at home. Right around that time I'd started experimenting with soft pastels, which I also find challenging. This double challenge didn't bode well in the finished product...

You can tell the finesse of the edges in the head kind of disintegrates in the body. It was frustrating but also fun playing with a new medium. I might try another subject using soft pastels. You draw and you learn.
